Anonymous study
You can use Nihongo Go without an account. Your vocabulary progress stays in that browser’s local storage unless you export it or choose to move it into an account.
Account information
If you sign in with Google, Google provides Nihongo Go with your stable account identifier, email address, name, and profile image. Nihongo Go uses that information only to identify your account, enforce the invite list, and display your account to you. Google does not receive your vocabulary progress, answers, or review schedule from Nihongo Go.
Learning information
Signed-in progress includes learned-word state, review schedules, daily targets and plans, and study activity needed to show history and keep devices consistent. A working copy remains on each signed-in device so studying can continue during a connection problem.
Storage and use
Account data is stored on Nihongo Go’s self-hosted server. During the invite-only preview, scheduled snapshots remain on that same server and do not protect against total server loss. Export progress periodically if you need an independent backup. Learning data is not sold, used for advertising, or sent to third-party product analytics. Operational logs exclude sign-in credentials and learning payloads.
Your controls
You can export progress from settings. Signed-in learners can reset progress saved to their account, sign out without deleting that saved progress, or permanently delete the account and its stored progress. On-server snapshots age out under the service’s retention schedule.
